Rogers Cadenhead schrijft over Dave Winer en zijn Instant Outliner:

As he is prone to do every few years, Dave’s trying to bootstrap an innovative new Internet technology and will relentlessly drag the rest of us along until we realize the potential.

The big idea here is instant outlining, shared outlines created by users over the Internet that update themselves in real time, helping people exchange information as they are working together.

Before you scoff, Dave’s done this before with RSS, weblogging, XML-RPC, and podcasting, all of which were tiny acorns when he said they would grow to mighty oaks. He’s either prophetic or just really good at actualizing his predictions.

With instant outlining, people create their own outlines to communicate with each other, publishing them automatically on an Internet server each time they save. When you subscribe to someone’s outline, it shows up in your Buddies window, which in effect forms a shared group outline.
